BRIAN LIPSON studied Theatre Design in London; designed for Lindsey Kemp, Ballet Rambert, etc. In the 1970s and 80s he was a key member of three important English experimental companies: Lumiere and Son, Rational Theatre and Hidden Grin. He later acted regularly at The National Theatre, Old Vic, Royal Court, etc. He moved to Melbourne in1997 and acts often at Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Bell Shakespeare etc. (He played Prospero and Shylock for Bell). He has worked with many independent companies: The Family, Hayloft, Eleventh Hour, Stuck Pigs Squealing, Chunky Move, Back to Back, etc. His solo show A Large Attendance in the Antechamber, which he wrote, designed and performed, toured widely and was acclaimed at festivals in Australia, UK and USA. In 2005, his two-person show Berggasse 19 – The Apartments of Sigmund Freud had a sell out premiere at MIFA.  He is also busy as a director and teacher, and often appears on TV and Film. Brian has been nominated for 9 Green Room Awards and won 4. He received an Australia Council Fellowship in 2011. Two recent shows are soon to tour: a solo work EDMUND. THE BEGINNING and a collaboration with Gideon Obarzanek called Two Jews walk into a theatre… .
